December 27, 2018

The speckled trout continue to BITE as seen in the following report. If interested in getting in on this, please call 910 845-2004 and we will book you a charter. Trips are $350 for 4 hours and $550 for 8. These prices cover baits, tackle, equipment and fishing licenses for up to 3 people.

Met up with good friend Steve Craven from the Ledford, NC area at noon today to go see if we could rustle up a Speckled trout this evening. Tied on one of the best trout baits I've ever used, the Betts 1/4 ounce Green Tiger Halo Shad, added some Pro-Cure Shrimp Super Sauce and went to an area I thought would be good for trout on the tide we had. Here was when I realized that neither clouds, rain, wind, and screaming tides could hold Steve back from putting the trout in the boat this evening. Loads of just under legal size and got 3 legal size for dinner. Had the 4th legal trout to max his limit hooked up a couple times but they pulled the hook. Bite was good much to my surprise with the conditions and barometric pressure dropping from the approaching low. Guess this means to forget about all the scientific jargon and when you get the chance, GO FISHIN'!!!

December 19, 2018

As the days of 2018 dwindle away, Chris and Butch continue to catch fish on the days they get to go. If you're interested in getting in on the trout fishing call me, Barbara at 910 845-2004. We do 1/2 day and full Day charters for 2 or 3 people.

When you had rain all weekend and a low pressure with more rain is on the way.....what do you do? What else....Go Fishin'!!!
Chris and I hit the water this morning around 10:30 to look for some more speckled trout.

After a slow start and a few adjustments it wasn't long until the Betts Green Tiger Halo Shads along with Christmas Tree Curly Tails , started getting us some bites. We had to work a little harder today from all the recent rains and the approaching low but we finally honed our approach and with the help of Pro-Cures Shrimp Super Sauce and Inshore Saltwater Gel, we both got our legal limit for some fresh fish dinners and on Both the falling and rising tide.

It was catch and release all day!!!

December 13, 2018

I have several days to catch up on but this is yesterday's catch. The reason I have posted so many pictures is each pictures is of a different fish, except the ones where they are holding up two or more.

Got up this morning with the intention of cranking up the chain saw and doing some border tree removal, when my son Capt Chris called. He said it's supposed to rain tomorrow and we both needed to take a day off and go fishing. Well you'll never believe this but we went fishing today. The Betts Green Tiger Halo Shad was on fire. So much so that Chris is a "curly tail grubahoilc" but he said today I have got to get me some of these Betts Halo Shad, been trying to tell him, now he is a believer too. I Know what that means, I need to get me some more Halo Shad's now.....LOL!!! We had a great time and caught a bunch of Speckled trout ( and even a small striper) and even kept us 3 each for tomorrow night's dinner. Another one of the best days of my life went into my book of life. These kind of days with my son are what I live.. It was great, Love you Chris!!

November 6, 2018

Today I had the pleasure of taking Rusty Koonts, Apex, NC and Allen Raynor, Zebulon, NC on a backwater 1/2 day trip.

Did a 4 hour backwater trip this morning and when the tide was right we were where we needed to be to catch our limit of Red Drum and plenty of speckled trout and some black drum. Betts green tiger halo shad had the trout excited this morning and small pin fish was all I could get the Red Drum to bite. The Betts Hi-Viz Fish Grippers made getting photos of the catches much easier!

Fun day of catching, releasing and keeping a few good eating in slot red drums. Hope we can do it again sometime!

November 3, 2018

Sorry I'm so late in posting these reports, but I needed to get the names and then Butch had some eye surgery. He's doing fine and here is the report.

Today I took Noel Land, Charlotte, NC; Tom Land, Marshville, NC; Glenn  Howell, Matthews; and Angilo Hantzopolous backwater fishing.

It was suppose to be an offshore trip, but as usual this year the wind was blowing hard and the waves were high. The YEAH RIGHT II can handle the weather, but I would prefer not to get someone hurt because of a fish so I try to err on the side of caution. Seems like the transition from offshore to backwater went pretty good today. Limited out on slot red drum and even released some in the slot, several under slot red drum, lost count of the Speckled trout today, and a bunch of short Black Drum but still got a few for the fish fry. A good day with great friends, looking forward to fishing the backwater with more friends I have made over the years on the Sport Fisherman offshore.

Tried a trip today with 4 people just to see if I could give the persso you can get the service that we are known for. Bay boat just doesn't have the room for 4 to fish at one time comfortably and efficiently. When we have 4 on the boat we just all get in each others way every time you try to move.

Here's a few pictures from today's trip that were easy to take using the Betts Hi-Viz Fish Grippers. So you see, I haven't stopped fishing, I just "changed gears"!! So, get your best friend and let's go fishing in the backwater creeks and rivers here in Southport/Oak Island, NC. Fresh water trips available also in North and South Carolina. Call 910 845 2004 for best times, season, and area for your choice of fishing!!

SIDE NOTE: If you have not read it on FACEBOOK or heard it through the grapevine, Capt Butch is selling the YEAH RIGHT II and will not longer be running offshore trips. It's been fun and we have met a lot of good people and caught a LOT of fish, but it's getting harder and harder to find and keep a good mate. We do not run during the winter and mates have to find alternate jobs. Also, this year we have had to cancel so many charters due to the weather. Capt Butch is truly going to miss going offshore with all you gals and guys, but we will be still running backwater trips. Can't guarantee fish on these, but Capt Butch will do his best to make sure you have a great and productive trip. 1/2 days are $350 and full days are $550. Call me and let me get your backwater charter booked for the spring, summer, fall and winter. If you want to go freshwater fishing, he'll be doing that too.

Thanks folks for supporting us for 20+ years offshore. Hope to see you again soon.

October 27, 2018

We may not be able to go offshore due to the weather, but we're getting in some fall backwater fishing.

Today Dave McKenzie, Mooresville, NC and Harold Hahn, Denver, NC joined Capt Butch in the backwater. They were rewarded with several short Speckled trout, flounder, Black Drum, and 2 fish that fought hard and pulled the hooks before they were seen. Good action most of the day just catching fish, losing fish, and getting bites with two great guys

Look at the last picture of what Capt Butch caught in the cast net this morning while getting bait. Could we be having a snook fishery building here in Southport/Oak Island, NC. Sure looks like a snook to me, what do you think!! Released it unharmed!!!

October 23, 2018

The wind continues to blow and we continue to cancel trips but we get to slip one in every now and then.

Today we went offshore with Ethan Davis, Casey Felts, Dobson, NC; Jake Dellinger, James Johnson, Elkin, NC; Austin Sumner, Mt Airy, NC; and Jonathan Cook, State Rd, NC.

Capt Butch was the Captain and mate on the sport fisherman for 6 guys on a bottom fishing trip. Some say you can't run a boat like that without a mate. Well, at 67 years old, HE STILL CAN!!!! He has never asked a mate to do anything he couldn't and wouldn't do and today he proved it. They headed back early after filling both fish boxes to the top with Grouper, Black Bass, Grey Snappers, Silver Snappers, Vermilion Snappers, Jolthead Porgys, Triggerfish, Almaco Jacks, Lesser Jacks, and even a nice Spiney Lobster.

Great day offshore with some fantastic fishermen!!!

October 16, 2018

Michael and Mary Ross, McAllen, TX joined us on a 1/2 day trip. With the dirty water, no bait and the wind starting to pick up, Michael caught this 43 1/2 inch red drum on the last cast. it was released unharmed but he'll get a nice certificate from the state. They had also caught a large ray, but this was the highlight of the trip.

Thanks for going out with us and hope you had a good time.

October 14, 2018

Had a backwater trip today with Bruce Tetrault and Cheryl Couture, MA. Even though the fish were a little short everyone still had a good time catching black and red drum.

Thanks guys and have a safe trip back to MA.

October 13, 2018

With Hurricane Micheal suppose to head our way by the weekend we had cancelled this charter so the group would not be charged for a motel stay, but as Friday dawned and Michael was gone, the seas were calming and Saturday looked great, we called them back up and everything worked out so they could go offshore today.

Our crew was Brandon, Wayne, and Julie Holder, and Meredith and Spencer Lane, all from Charlotte, NC.  Calm seas took us offshore and the fish started biting immediately. The fish were biting but we had to stay on the move to keep on the fish since we were quickly overtaken with either sharks or tomtates. Either species can wreak havoc on a good bottom bite and they were very hungry as well. But persistance and good numbers soon had the fish boxes full to the top and it was time to head home!!

Had our mate Jesse Perkins from last year aboard and he did a great job. Thanks Jesse!!

Backwater Sunday, then next week is full of nearshore and offshore trips if the weather co-operates. Hope we can finish out this year on a good note.

Capt Butch also had a little friend to hitch a ride for a while. Looks like someone had been blown off course. Didn't stay long and we hope he mad it to dry land.

October 7, 2018

Sorry the reports are out of order and this one is really late, but I had problems getting the pictures to download. Finally got them yesterday.

Today we went offshore with Doug and James Houghton, Jason, Gavin and Holden Shehan, all from Salisbury, NC and Cory Flemmings, Charlotte, NC. We took the Yeah Right II and its crew to the land of bottom fish offshore and we never saw another boat all day long. When the anchor rope came tight it was instant action until later in the afternoon when the current became so strong we couldn't even get the 16 ounce weights to the bottom anymore. But that didn't matter because by that time the fish boxes were full of Grouper, Vermillion Snappers, Trigger Fish, Silver Snappers, Jolt Head porgys, Almaco Jacks, Black Bass, Rudder Fish, Lesser Jack's, and it was time to head back anyway.

Supposed to go offshore again tomorrow but winds from NE not looking to promising at this posting!! But, if we can go we'll post the results right here!!!

October 9, 2018

Today we went into the local creeks with Karen and Jerry Smith, folks we went to school with and friends from Lexington, NC. The first place we stopped had fish but they weren't willing to commit, just nibbled. Finally coaxed two small trout to take the bait. Moved to a new area. Barbara said she wanted shrimp this time for bait, since she'd rather catch croakers than nothing. That was the trick. before long she and Karen were putting black drum in the boat left and right. Some were to small but we had plenty of keepers. As the tide changed so did the type of fish we caught. Still had black drum, but added red drum, croakers and the occasional pinfish.

P.S. Each of the pictures of the black drum are different black drum. Needless to say, Karen and I wore Capt Butch OUT.

It was a great day of fishing and catching and to top it all off, Jerry caught redfish on his birthday!

Waiting on Hurricane Matthew then offshore again. Will post again as soon as possible.

October 6, 2018

We went offshore today with a group from Charlotte, Billy Brown, Charles Norman, Charles Williams, James Holloway, and James Culp. It was a good day with calm seas.

They brought their own fish boxes to fill and fill them we did with Gag, Scamp, and Rock Hind Grouper, Silver Snappers, Grey Snappers, Black Bass, Vermilion Snappers, Jolt head porgys, and Almaco Jack's.

Another good day of offshore bottom fishing with some Great guys. We had a blast!!!! Back offshore again tomorrow bottom fishing.

October 5, 2018

Well we survived Hurricane Flo with minimum damage and started the offshore season back today. Our crew today was, Robbie Carelock, Monroe, NC; Don Keziah, Waxhaw, NC; Jack McHendon, Wallace, NC; and Bo Kendall, Wadesboro, NC. After not being offshore for a while we were wondering if the fish would still be there and ready to fish. Here's what Capt Butch had to say:

Was a little concerned about the water but 28 miles from #10 buoy the water cleaned up very nicely. Didn't have but a couple stick with the fishing the whole trip but still managed a very nice catch of Grouper, Black Bass, Vermillion Snappers, triggerfish, Jolt head porgys, Grey Snappers, Almaco Jack's, and a few sharp nose sharks, that when cared for properly are delicious on the grill!!! A good day with Great People and a pile of fillets as well. Don't get any better than this!!!!

Tomorrow is another off shore day trip so we'll see what happens.

September 9, 2018

One last offshore trip before Florence. Today we took out locals, JD and Lori Shadduck, Oak Island, NC and their friends Billy Shadduck and Carmen Christy, Concord, NC.

One of the calmest days I've ever seen offshore today. It started off slow but as the day went on we found them, never give up and caught Silver Snappers, Gray Snappers Black Bass, Pinkies, and Grouper. Ended up being a great day.

Thanks guys for calling us and stay safe during the hurricane.

We will be off for a while. Hope to be back next week, but we'll have to wait and see. Until then stay safe and I pray that God will hold all of us in His Mighty Hands.

September 8, 2018

While Captain Butch was offshore, Captain Chris and Holly were flounder fishing at the local reefs.  It was a good day of catching, caught 5 keepers and threw back around 8 or 9 that were to small.  Hope the storm doesn't mess this up.

September 8, 2018

We spent the weekend getting in some offshore trips before Florence comes knocking. On Saturday Seth Land, Sam DeNoble, Kaliph Hayes, and Nathan Hewett, Waxhaw, NC joined Nathan Campbell, Monroe, NC.

Don't know what the reason was but today's bite offshore was tougher than normal. Although the ocean was in a slow swell, the current was running strong. We kept on the move and brought home enough for a few fish frys. We ended the day with Black bass, Grey snappers, silver Snappers , vermilion Snappers, Triggerfish, 12 groupers, sharks and a nice Barracuda for the grill.

Enjoyed it guys and hope to see you again in the backwater next time.

September 2, 2018

Today's 1/2 day trips were full of firsts, fun, laughter, friends and family.

The morning trip was with a group of guys from the High Point/Clemmons area, Rodney, Sherrod, and Justin Alston, High Point, NC; Marcus McNair, Clemmons, NC; Anthony Sheppard, High Point, NC; and Otham Pace, High Point, NC.

They had a great morning of catching Spanish Mackerel, 30+, then catching and releasing sharks. Great group of guys and I really enjoyed fishing with them.

The afternoon charter was with some new young guys to nearshore fishing, Brady and Colton Swiger, Whitsrett, NC. With them were Justin Swiger and Bill Ramey.

After the boys caught some Spanish, the adults decided to go after some sharks.

Great day and I hope it started these young fishermen on the path to catching more fish and the fun of being with family.

September 1, 2018

Don't know how much longer it will last, but the weather is beautiful right now. Chris Locklear, Carlton Revels, Nash Locklear, Jonathan Burnett, Lumberton, NC  and Carlis Locklear, Shannon, NC went offshore with us today.

Looks like a big fish fry is about to happen in Lumberton, NC since this group caught an abundance of black bass, vermillion snapper, silver snapper, grey snapper, jolt heads, grouper and more. This was a fun group to fish with today and we had a blast!!!

Hope to get offshore some more before the weather changes.

August 31, 2018

While the weather is beautiful for offshore fishing we have been running everyday. Today it was with Jerry Suver, Tom Cosgrove, Tom Corbin, Southport, NC; Dr. Michael Ayers, Tabor City, NC and Rod Mitton, Bolivia, NC.

I was wondering if we could do as good today as yesterday. Well today we caught nice black bass, silver and gray snappers, pinkies, vermilion snappers, sharks and groupers. Check out the pictures and you be the judge.

Really have been enjoying the last few days. It's been a rough season with lots of wind and high seas, but the weather lately has been perfect.

Offshore again tomorrow, we just might need a bigger boat if the fish keep biting like this!!!

August 30, 2018

Today's offshore crew was Josh and Danny Botkins, Middlebourne, WV and Chris Bussard, Sheperdstown, WV.

Beautiful weather, beautiful seas, and hungry fish were waiting for the Yeah Right II crew today offshore. From 1st stop to last stop it was fish flying over the rails all day. Didn't take my 3 man crew long to limit out on Grouper, then limit out on a variety of reef complex species. Then we got busy catching vermillion Snappers, Hog Nose Snapper, and an added surprise, 5 Mahi, some Big Black Bass, and an American Red Snapper (someone told them the season was over so they came back). We had to release, some Almaco Jack's and a few sharks.

I love it when my fishermen reel in a fish and even though we have more time to fish they say, I'M DONE!!!! Will be back offshore again tomorrow. Will we do as good as today, you never know, but the guys today set the bar kinda high. Come back tomorrow and see how we do.

August 25, 2018

Today Capt Chris took his wife, Holly and me, Barbara on a backwater excursion. Capt Butch had a charter so he was unable to go with us.

We started out in the backwater creeks and before you knew it we had our limit of keeper red drums. Then we decided to go to a nearshore reef and go after flounder which is Holly's favorite fish to catch and eat.  It was a little rough when we got there, but Capt Chris got the boat positioned at  just the right place and with the aid of the trolling motor on anchor, we stayed in the general area. Before long Holly was catching flounder. I was catching croakers and Chris was keeping bait on our rigs. When things slowed down we moved to a new location and before long we were catching keeper flounder again. This time everybody participated and the ocean became almost slick. Before the day was over we had  3 nice red drums, a black drum and several nice flounder.

It was a great day. The only thing that would have made it better was if Capt Butch had been able to join us.

August 26, 2018

Finally after what seems like all month the winds settled and we went offshore. Today's group was Jeff Goodman, Michael McCall, Amber Goodman, and Angela Goodman, Salisbury, NC and Jay Murphy and Eric Goodman, Charlotte, NC. This group had attempted to go out with us earlier in the year, but it was just to rough offshore. I think they were glad we waited.

Slower today than normal with east winds, full moon, and currents but still managed 6 limits of grouper, Black Bass, Grey Snappers, Vermillion Snappers, and some sharks.

Enjoyed making new friends today.

August 25, 2018

Today's 1/2 day charter consisted of Ricky Hill, Jesse Hill, Chris Long, and Mason Long of Madison, NC.

With all the wind and rain wasn't sure if the Spanish Mackerel would still be here, but after a little searching we found several for some good fish dinners.

Offshore tomorrow and the Yeah Right Charters crew is ready.

August 24, 2018

Today was interesting..... it started out a full day offshore then most of the guys couldn't make it, plus it was a NE 15-20 knot wind. Then we decided to do a half day on the beach, then this morning we decided to do a backwater trip with  Mark Ferguson, Fayetteville, NC and Ronnie Friend, Good View, VA.

So backwater it was and it was a pretty good decision. Started off with Speckled trout boated one then lost another one. Made a move and limited out on the in slot Red Drum. By this time we had slack tide but still went to see if we could convince a flounder to bite. Lots of bites yielding a nice 20 inch flat fish.

Couple of great and fun guys to fish with today, we had a blast!!! Glad everything worked out and we were able to go fishing.

August 23, 2018

Fishing with us in the backwater today was James Bolt, Cody and Megan Ball of Villa Rica, GA.

This was a late morning call so I only had a few minutes to get bait and thanks to my 1st mate on the sport fisherman Dennis Cooke for helping me get enough bait to make the trip this evening. Started off with a nice Speckled trout and a nice Black Drum. Soon after a short flounder came in the boat then we hooked up with a nice Red Drum that got us in some structure and broke us off.

Enjoyed it folks. Glad you called and we could work everything out. Thanks Dennis, you really helped me out.

August 15, 2018

Today's backwater trip was with Luke and Kristen Wind, Cary, NC. and we hit the backwater in search of Red Drum, Speckled Trout and Flounder

Started off catching some very nice croakers for our area and after quite a few of these we made a move and soon picked up an in slot Red Drum, then a short flounder, and a couple just barely short Speckled trout. One trout might have been a keeper if it had a tail. I figured any fish that could survive in the wild and fight like it did with no tail at all deserved to be set free. So if you happen to catch a speckled trout with no tail in Cape Creek, Please let him live!!!

Enjoyed the day with you folks and hope to see you again sometime.

Now if the wind will quit blowing, got a lot of offshore trips coming up. It's been a tough year. Even though the charters have been there, we have only been able to run half of what we did last year. Hopefully the remainder of the year will be better.

August 11, 2018

The weatherman said the wind was going to blow 20 knots in the afternoon, but we decided since it was calm that morning we would give it a try. L Our group today was Adam Tenny, Brent Gasfer and Neill Patterson, Sanford, NC; Jon McLacghlin and Robert Winfield, Wilmington, NC; and Ruan Eshbach, Raleigh, NC.

Again we searched for the American Red Snapper, but to no avail. Also the fish we found did not want to co-operate, new moon and strong tides made for tough fishing conditions. As Robert Winfield wrote, " Pretty good day on the water. Caught em early and late, was a tough bite in between, but Butch Foster was able to find us some fish even with the tough conditions. The surprise mahi on light tackle on the light line was a blast."

It was good to see you guys again. Thanks for understanding about the tough fishing conditions. Till next time  FISH ON! Oh and the weatherman was correct, we had rough seas coming in.

August 10, 2018

With the winds settling down some we went offshore today with Chris Hoover, Mike Hoover, Tyler Hoover, Kathy Hoover, Carissa Gallimore, and Brad Murry of Asheboro, NC.

Went in search of the American Red Snapper part of the day since the season is open this weekend and next weekend, but someone must have told the fish because there were none to be found. As a matter of fact all the fish seemed to have lock jaw today. Myself and everyone else I talked with today was finding the bottom bite very slow. We stayed on the move and put together a decent catch at days end. Try again tomorrow weather permitting.

Thanks folks for going out with us. Enjoyed your company and making new friends.

August 9, 2018

Since the winds had kicked up we could not run a near shore or offshore. Barbara had written down a possible backwater trip if we couldn't go so she called them the next morning and off we went.

Today we were in the backwater with Burke Cathey and his son Angus. The waters are still dirty in the backwaters but fish still have to eat. Just makes it harder for them to find your bait sometimes. Good thing is water and bite gets better with every tide change.

Offshore tomorrow if it calms down.

August 7, 2018

Had a 1/2 day charter this afternoon with Josh, Mandy, Hudson and Jack Taylor, Centerville, OH and Travis Hannah, Centerville, OH.

Went out  trying to find some Spanish Mackerel in the windy and dirty water. Now I would like to use the winds and dirty water as an excuse, but, I can't . Yeah we caught a couple but that was all we got to the boat. My group was fine with our catch but I knew they wanted to have a few more to try them out.

Now I want to give a huge Thank You to Captain Ryan on the Fugitive. He had caught at least a dozen and his group did not want them so he called me on the phone and asked if my group would like to have them. It makes me feel honored to have a great friend like Ryan. Friends like this are far and few apart, Thank you again Ryan for saving my day and providing my charter group the fish today that I could not!!!! Yes, just another testament that God works in mysterious ways!!!

Hope you guys will try us again when the water is not so dirty and the water so wavy.

August 6, 2018

Another beautiful day offshore with Cullen Knosby, Concord, N; Allen Glover and Peter Mierke, Richmond Hill, GA; Ed Stefanik, Simpsonville, SC; and Greg Manning, Wilmington, NC.

Got the boats limit of Grouper and more limits of Grey Snappers, Black Bass, Vermillion Snappers, Silver Snappers, also got a few Almaco Jack's, a regular wrasse and a Puddingwife wrasse. Some sharks and a few fish we'll never know what they were because we couldn't out power them.

Guys I enjoyed it and enjoyed watching you catch a variety of fish. Hope to see you again sometime.

(For folks that read our post often; not sure if it was because of the saturated ground or what the problem, but I have been unable to post for several days. Everything seems to be up and running now and hope you enjoy our reports)

August 5, 2018

Due to a prior commitment by yesterday's group, we weren't able to get out to our normal fishing holes, but today was a different story,

Offshore with us today were William Carter, Wallace, NC; with his son Eric Carter, with his sons Blake,Rocky Point NC and Clifton, Wallace, NC; Clifton's son-in-law Davin Medden and his son Braydon, Goldsboro, NC.  It's quite obvious the rains and winds the last 2 weeks didn't hurt a thing out there!!! We ended the day with 90 complex species, 16 Grouper, 2 Hog Nose Snappers, and a mix of Black Bass, Vermillion Snappers and Silver Snappers. Beautiful weather and calm seas, Great crew, and Great Fishing/Catching today. As good as it gets!!!

Back offshore again tomorrow and full report on our website ASAP!!! Check out the Betts Hi Viz Fish Grippers, several have asked how do they do on big fish, they do good for us!!!

August 4, 2018

Offshore finally and the fish were ready to bite. This was another charter that we had had to cancel earlier in the week, but were able to get in before the week was over.

Headed offshore with us today was Casey and Toyia McLean, South Mills, NC; Robert Boston, Lenoir, NC and Michael Mundy, Granite Falls, NC. We pushed through the rain clouds this morning to find blue skies and a calm sea on the other side. Oh, and did I mention everyone's limit of nice black bass, some throw back American Red Snappers, Vermillion Snappers, and several Grey Snappers before we decided to head home early today. Yeah we have had a lot of bad weather the last two weeks but the wait to get back offshore was worth it!!!!

Great fishing folks and hope we delivered to your expectations. Also thank you for the nice comments for the Pineapple Award. Barbara will post them on the Guestbook as soon as possible.

August 1, 2018

After being land locked for what seemed like a couple of weeks due to winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening, we finally made it to the backwater with Clint Kappesser and Abigail Johnson, KY. We had cancelled on them several times earlier in the week, but things finally came together inshore.

We fished many areas and caught a lot of fish, but the big flounder, trout and red drum were not to be found. We did catch some nice croakers, and Clint said that Abbie was giving him a fit about the croakers she caught were bigger than his.

Thanks guys for giving us a chance. Sorry the big ones didn't bite, but we sure had a great time meeting you GREAT PEOPLE. Safe trip back to Kentucky.

July 26, 2018

Today we were privileged to take Hugh Speed III, Hugh Speed IV and John Starnowski, Camp Lejune, NC on a 1/2 day backwater trip.

All this rain has slowed the backwater bite but some fish are still being caught.I had a great group this morning that was very happy to catch black drum so we stuck with the black drum bite all morning.

Now the afternoon trip was about fish in the freezer. I let them know about the morning bite and the fact that the rains had slowed the bite some from what it was a week earlier. We decided to wait until the water cleaned up and got all this rain water out of here and the fish were biting a little better.

Hope the rain goes away soon since we are having to cancel a lot of charters due to storms.

July 16, 2018

Had two half days today. Not sure why but the Spanish Mackerel are there, we can see them, but they are not wanting to feed. So often we have to go to plan B.

The first group consisted of Al, Jacob, and AJ Smith of Concord, NC; Todd Lefler, Concord, NC; Creed and Dale Cagle, Davidson, NC. Like I said we could see the Spanish jumping but only a few of them were hungry. We even stopped on some of the local reefs and caught a few black bass that were to small and toadfish.  Sorry guys, we tried, but it just wasn't meant to be.

The second group consisted of Shelia Decker, Natlie Brazeal, and Lenny Eagleman, West Plains, MO and Tabitha Belt, John Belt and Ellen Holloway from McColl, SC. Learning from our earlier charter and with the help of Capt Chris and Holly we caught a few mullet minnows, then Robert from Reelin' Pelican came by and gave us some more. Thanks! We really appreciated it. Off to the reef we went and landed a couple of flounder, and a really small cobia, that was quickly released. Not a lot but we had fun and that's what counts.

Sorry the fish wouldn't co-operate today, but I hope you'll give us a try another time. It may toatlly be different. Safe travels back to your homes and God Bless you all.

July 15, 2018

Today we had two 1/2 day backwater trips. The first was with Steve Clark, Charlotte, NC. The red drum were biting and we also had a couple of small flounder hit that were released. We also released one over slot drum.

The second 1/2 day backwater charter was with Mark Gum and his son Dylan, Haw River, NC. Since the tide was high I was glad Capt Chris and Holly were there to help me catch some mullet minnows before our second trip. This time we caught some good size flounder, slot red drums and a couple of trout.

Over all today was a good day. We caught some fish and I met some new fishermen. Hope you enjoyed your trips as much as Bobo and I did.

Weather is changing so I'm not sure how much fishing we will get in this week, but if we get to go we'll put the report right here. Until then FISH ON!!

P.S. Can't leave Holly and Capt Chris out. They went on Saturday and caught some nice flounder and a trout. Way to go guys!

July 13, 2018

With the weatherman and Frying Pan Tower Buoy saying offshore looked nice we headed offshore for some bottom fishing with some good friends made over the years on the Yeah Right Ii, Frank Wallace, Wingate, NC; Demmie Townsend, Jefferson, SC; Kevin Funderburk, Pageland, SC; Joey Austin, Monroe, NC; Jonathan Waller, Polkton, NC and Jake Ricketts, Wadesboro, NC.

We caught plenty of silver and grey snapper, beeliners, grouper, almaco jacks, sharks and a nice American Red that was released after the photo shoot.

Then winds shifted to the NE and got rather sporty for the trip back to South Harbour Marina this afternoon, but I do believe everyone was give out and ready to rest while the twin Cummins diesels in our sport fisherman made short work of the big seas and brought us back quickly and safely!!!

Thank you guys for choosing YEAH RIGHT CHARTERS!

July 10, 2018

Our morning trip was quite a challenge. The depression off our coast has made things tougher than normal right now. The Spanish Mackerel seemed to have vanished. A big thank you to Capt Wally on the charter boat "Fish Whistle" for giving me the heads up on where the Spanish Mackerel were this morning. But as my luck would have it by the time I got there the fish were still there jumping everywhere but for some reason they did not want what I had to offer.

With the results of my morning trip I called my evening trip and let them know I had not done anything on the first trip. Drew and Paul Miller, Apex, NC and Brian Lorichon, Fuquay Varina, NC still wanted to give it a try so I changed things up to hopefully have a better afternoon trip. It worked, our evening trip was great. Drew caught his first flounder, first trout and first cobia that was released because it was to small. In total we had nine keeper flounder, several releases, a small Cobia, and a nice Speckled Trout.

Glad we could put together a fish catching pattern this afternoon. As for the first charter of the day we tried. Hopefully you'll give us another try and things will be better but that's why they call it fishing not catching.

July 9, 2018

We had a backwater trip today with Bill Rosford and his grandson, Lyndon Gaddy, Polkton, NC. The tide was right, the fish were there and these guys knew how to fish . They ended the day with red drum, flounder, and a nice trout.

Thanks guys. Hope you had a good time. I know Bobo and I did.

Back on the ocean with half days tomorrow. Hope Hurricane Chris has left us some fish here.

July 6,2018

Headed offshore with James Holston, Liberty, SC: Ally Holston, Greenville, SC; Tammy and Scott Holston, Lansing, NC; Brian Mowers, Winston-Salem, NC in search of some BIG FISH.

Started off this morning on the beach after Spanish Mackerel but after catching a few they wanted to head offshore and wanted to be wore out from catching fish. All I'll say is my mission was completed and we headed back a little early!!

July 5, 2018

What a beautiful flat day on the ocean with A J Hatfield, Newton, NC; Sean and Tanner Specht, Taylorsville, NC; Matt Creighton, Hickory, NC; and Tyler, Buckhorn, Taylorsville, NC

We caught Big ole' Black Bass, nice Grey Snappers, Biggest Silver Snappers I've seen in a long time, a very nice Cobia, plenty of sharks, always catch sharks, and some Vermillion Snappers. Thanks guys, you had lots of charter boats to choose from and we are honored that you chose us for your fishing trip.

Hope to see you again sometime!

July 4, 2018

With all the festivities and going fishing myself, I seem to have gotten behind in my post, but hopefully I can get caught up today. Fishing with us for Spanish Mackerel today, were; Debbie and Jerry Newton, Oak Island, NC; Robert, Kristin, Reed and Chase Boettner, Midlothian, Va.

We had a good 1/2 day of catching and enjoyed making new friends today.

July 3, 2018

Today consisted of 2 groups going Spanish Mackerel fishing.

The morning group consisted of Tim and Kyle Shumacher, Highlands Ranch, CO; Jackie and Kurt Schumacher, Southport, NC andBill Steinhardt, Southport, NC.Although the first group only caught a few Spanish, they caught a bonita and Kyle landed a nice hammerhead shark that was release after the photo shoot.

Hope you guys had a good time. I know Bobo did especially when you caught the shark.

The second group consisted of the Swaim family, Terry, Craig, Andrew, and Bradley, Raleigh, NC and Madison Bullard of Boone, NC.

The Spanish decided to bite and before the afternoon was finished the group had caught several Spanish to make some delicious meals.

Terry glad you decided the fish might bite and took a chance on going. Hope all of you had a good time. I know Capt Butch and Dennis did.

Now while all this was going on, Chris and Holly asked me, Mom to go flounder fishing with them.

We anchored and immediately I caught a keeper flounder, Holly caught a keeper flounder and Chris caught a keeper flounder and that was it for Chris and I. Holly went on the catch 5 nice keeper flounders and threw a couple back. We all had a great time and I'm glad Holly caught all those flounders.

July 2, 2018

Today's trip was with some locals and their friends, James Morrison, Oak Island, NC;Brad Lewis, Hayden Lewis, Ft Mill, SC; Gary Lewis, Lake City FL; and Trevor Rhodes, Austin Grant, High Point, NC.One of the things on their bucket list was to catch the hard fighting and tasty Almaco Jack's. Well tthey can now remove that item from their list.

We also caught some nice Black Bass, Big Grey Snappers, Jolt head Porgys, Grouper, Vermilion Snappers, Silver Snappers, Big Skarks, and American Red Snappers. The sharks and American Red Snappers were all released. Great fishing guys! It was nice meeting you and hope to see you again sometime.

While we were out on "Lake Atlantic" today Capt Chris and Holly were on the backwater bay boat the Yeah Right III putting the smack-down to the Red Drum and Flounder.

If the weather holds, July looks to be a good and busy month.

Chris and Holly's backwater catch.

June 28, 2018

We took a group from the mountains out today, Jessica Habel, Chris Bottoms, Mike Bottoms, Beth Bottoms, TN; Jeff Bottoms Stoneville, NC; and Suzanne Tate, Asheville, NC.

The ocean wasn't quite as nice today as it was yesterday but the big waves and full moon currents didn't stop the Yeah Right II or this group from filling the fish box to the top with Big Black Bass, Grey Snappers, Grouper, Triggerfish, Jolt Head Porgys, Vermillion Snappers, Silver Snappers, Atlantic Sharpnose, Almaco Jacks, and a very nice Mahi to show for their efforts. We would have needed a bigger boat if all 6 had fished today!!!!!!

Hope you enjoyed it folks. Sorry it was a little rough on the way in but that's the ocean for you and the weatherman doesn't always get things right.

06-27-2018

Finally the winds calmed and we went offshore with Pat, Ben, Sam Kee; Jimmy Parrish; Sam Kirk, and Nathan Brill, all from WV. Today's group has fished with me for nearly every year since Yeah Right Charters was started.

The fish were hungry and these guys know how to catch fish. We had limits of silver and gray snapper, BIG black bass, Beliners, pinkies, groupers, a couple of Mahi, and a cobia that was released. Lots and lots of good fish dinners. Oh yeah, these guys know how to fish and a couple hours today 4 of the group took a nap and they still filled all the boxes full of fish!!!

Guys, I have enjoyed taking you fishing these years. Have a safe trip home and God Bless you all!!

06-26-2018

Had a 1/2 day charter this morning with Allison, Aidan and Brendan O'Neil from Millers Creek, NC.

The Spanish Mackerel bite is starting to rebound from all the winds and rain we have had lately. #1 and #2 Clark Spoon Planers with 00 Silver/Pink Flash Clark Spoons trolled around 7 knots was what got the fish to bite today. And again the Betts HiViz Fish Grippers kept everyone safe from all those sharp teeth while taking pictures of fish!!

Brendan wrote me a note saying this was the first time they had been on a charter, but they WOULD be back. Glad you guys had a good time and hope you enjoy your Spanish filets

06-24-2018

Today's charter was with Joel Attoe and Joel Attoe II, Middlesex, NC; and Bryan and David Peele, Sims, NC.

A persistent SW wind today had it sporty on the beach and the water dirty. We still had a little Spanish Mackerel bite but nothing like 2 days ago. Every days different at sea and when I went to my gallery to post the pictures I only had one of the Spanish pictures. I guess the other pictures are floating around somewhere in never never land, they weren't in my gallery. Technology is great when it works!!

Again the #1 and #2 Clark Spoon Planers with 00 Silver/Pink Flash and 00 Gold Clark Spoons got us our bites today. Thanks to Betts Tackle for producing a Fish Gripper that works really well on all fish, even Spanish Mackerel!!!

Storms and rough waters expected tomorrow so will probably be Tuesday before we get out again. See you soon.

06-22-2018

Had an offshore trip scheduled this morning but when we started out it was just to rough so we decided to stay nearshore and see what we could catch. Today we had some friends from Lexington, NC with us, Jerry Smith, Jennifer, Josh and Aiden Moretz and Holly Braswell.

The bite was decent and we had a good time. Everyone really liked the Betts Fish Grippers to hold the Spanish with. Keeps you safely away from all those razor sharp teeth!!!

Glad we could get you guys on some fish and if the look on Aiden's face means anything, we think you had a good time. At least he did! Take care going home and we'll see you again this fall.

06-16-2018

The offshore charter started out well with Dylan Sigmon, Mt Ulla, NC; Ronnie Chapman, Jefferson City, TN; Jeff Sigmon, Mt Ulla, NC; and Phil and Rillie Baker, Thomasville, NC with lots of fish caught at the first stop and Dylan catching his first Mahi, but when we moved to the second stop everything went South. Since we couldn't get anchored up, Capt Butch felt like something had gone wrong with the hydraulic pump. After checking things out, he found out that the prop shaft had broken at he propeller and we had to come in on one motor.

Been working hard to get everything up and running again and should be ready by Thursday or Friday. Now if the wind will stop blowing again. Such is the life of a charter boat Captain and his family. Got to love it.

06-11-2018

No matter the tide, today seemed a good day for catching red drum. Some were smaller than legal, some larger and some were just right for some wonderful red drum dinners.

Capt Butch started the day out with Tom Hauser, High Point, NC. Tom was wanting a few pointers on where and when to catch fish and Capt Butch was happy to oblige. I talked to Tom recently and he informed me he had a great time and hopes to go out some more this summer.

The afternoon group of Gerald Leatherman and Steve Keller, Newton, NC and Rick Jenkins, Maiden, NC went out earlier this week but were chased in my the storm. Today they hooked up many  red drum, but just kept their limit of 1 per person.

Tomorrow we head offshore after a week of backwater and nearshore charters. Hope the weatherman misses it and the oceans remain calm.

06-09-2018

Today started out with Gerald Leatherman, Steve Keller, Newton,NC and Rick Jenkins Maiden, NC. It was a good morning and the Spanish Mackerel were biting, but then the thunder started clapping, lightning flashing, water spout sited and decided we were going in before it got really nasty. As we reached the Marina, the bottom fell out.

Wasn't sure if the afternoon trip was going to be a go but everything cleared out so we headed to the Spanish Mackerel areas again with Dakota Price, Greensboro, NC; Keith, Cass, Sierra and Blue Price, Staley, NC and Dylan Dewitt, Liberty, NC.  The bite was HOT and before the 5 hour trip was over the group had 43 nice Spanish for some great meals. Thanks guys! Hope you had a good time.

Next week we have offshore trips booked almost everyday. Hope all this beautiful weather will hold through then.

06-08-2018

Once in a while you get to enjoy a special day with special people. Lately I've had the privilege of being able to spend a couple days fishing with my wife, son and daughter in law. Well today was another of those days. I met Gene Smith years ago and over the years he has become to me the brother I never had. Sheila Koonts Beck, Gene's girlfriend, and Gene from Lexington, NC joined me today in the backwater.

We caught some lower slot Red Drum, Flounder that just missed the mark and lost a few nice fish and even broke a few off. Days like today are what life is all about, the fish biting, that doesn't hurt either, but when you can spend quality time with the people you love and cherish and that's all you need to have a great time and day then you've gone full circle and truly understand the meaning of life. Unfortunately, for one reason or another some never make it to that point, what a sad thing to never learn what really matters in this world!!!

If you don't have at least one of these Betts Billy Bay " HiViz" Grab N' Grip Floating Fish Grippers you don't know what you're missing!! Sheila was so impressed with mine I gave them to her, now I got to go get me some more!!

Enjoyed it guys and can't wait to do it again!

06-07-2018

Today's 1/2 day charter consisted of Todd Ray, Haw River, NC; Wayne Brooks, Greensboro, NC; and Chris Madren, Graham, NC.

The Spanish Mackerel bite had slowed a little on the beach for me this morning, I would have thought that they had moved on to somewhere else but that wasn't the case. They were there, I could see them jumping, they just didn't want our offerings as much this morning. We finally got plenty for a nice fish fry for the families using the Clark Spoon Planers and 00 silver/Pink Flash Clark spoons trolled right at 7 knots. I then asked the guys if they wanted me to finish the morning "wearing them out"? They sorta laughed and said "sure"!!! Just a little over an hour into the next adventure and with nearly an hour left to go I heard them say, "I'm done", and another said "me too","I've had enough also" was the last of the three. That's what I like to hear, I know I've done my job.

Thanks for stopping by and God Bless you all. Backwater tomorrow!!

06-06-2018

Today was a beautiful day to be at sea fishing and out group today of Nathan Young, Cory, IN; and Ryne and Brad Hayes, Center Point, IN had a good day of fishing.

I think everyone was offshore today except for me and Capt J D. Started off with the set up we ended with yesterday and it didn't take the #1 and #2 Clark Spoon Planers to put the 00 Clark Spoons in silver/Pink Flash and Silver Green/Flash on the menu today to start the Spanish Mackerel feeding. At a few times the bite was so fast I couldn't keep up with the count.

I had been watching the surrounding waters and there was quite a lot of shark activity going on so after we had enough Spanish Mackerel I asked the guys if they wanted to hook up on some big fish, as they say, the rest is history and it didn't take long until we were hooked up with big Black tips, spinners, and a double catch of Hammerheads.

Glad you guys decided to go out again today and hope you had a good time.

06-05-2018

Today's fishermen and fisherwomen on the Yeah Right II were Paredes Family, Thomas, Cindy, Danielle, and Hannah from Christiansburg, VA; and Kelly and Paula McGuigan from Ft Lapton, CO.

The Spanish Mackerel bite was a little slower starting off than yesterday due to us hitting the fishing grounds right at low tide but the tide turned and I was persistent and determined to send these folks home with quite a few fish for several fish fries. 30 nice sized Spanish mackerel yields 60 fillets for the grill. Dedication, persistence and Clark Spoons #1 and #2 Planers with 00 Silver/Pink Flash Clark spoons paid off and we got the job done once again!

Enjoyed meeting some more nice people and showing the beauty of catching good eating fish nearshore.

06-04-2018

Went from backwater Red Drum, Black Drum, Flounder, and speckled trout yesterday to beach front Spanish Mackerel today. On board today was Sam and Sam Last, Clove, SC; Simon Kerr, Waxhaw, NC and Mick Greenfield, Norwich, Norfolk, UK.

We were on a Spanish Mackerel mission this morning and we got the mission completed with the help of 00 Clark spoons in gold pulled behind Clark Spoon #1 and #2 planers. Another good day catching fish with a great group of people on board the Yeah Right II.

06-02-2018

With the weatherman forecasting rough seas offshore, Saturday's charter decided to wait until a better day and since I didn't have anyone on the waiting list for a nearshore or backwater trip, the Foster family decided to go fishing. Butch, Chris, Holly and I left about 9:30 am, (not early birds anymore) and went to some places we had caught red and black drums before and they were still there. As the current changed direction the fishing got hot. Then as quickly as they started they stopped biting and we headed to a new location. Before long the call of "Fish On" was sounding again. After catching numerous black drum, red drum, trout and flounder we came home with 4 red drum and 1 nice flounder.

It's nice to fish as a family again. Butch, Chris and I have fished all our lives but having Holly with us now completes our family and only makes it better. Until next time God Bless!
